National Football League is requiring pro photographers to wear security vests. This news was released in mid July and immediately responded to by photographers on numerous websites including SportsShooter.com. Not the end of the world, except that the vest sports a Canon logo. Nikon shooters and even some Canon people are not taking the news laying down. To read more on this subject click here.
On August 20th Canon raised the bar on DSLR's and fired a shot at the medium format back industry with the announcement of the EOS 40D and the EOS 1Ds Mark III. A mere 18 months after the 30D was announced, it's 10.1 megapixel CMOS replacement has been announced with a long list of improvements. Here is a short list compared with the 30D
The 40D is available for rent for $90.00 per day and for sale at $1299.00 as of today. The EOS 1Ds Mark III, improves on the Mark II in more than just a 4+ megapixel increase. This camera offers 14-bit depth resolution on a 21 MP CMOS full frame sensor. Images can be converted to over 100 MB uncompressed TIFFs. This body also incorporates increase AF points and the EOS Integrated Cleaning System. The EOS 1Ds Mark III is scheduled to be available in November of this year. To read more, click here.
Not to be left out, on August 23rd, Nikon announced the pending shipping of two new cameras and five new lenses. The long awaited D3 is a full frame 12.1 megapixel camera and the D300 is a 12.3 megapixel DX-format camera. The D3 has continous shooting at up to 9 frames a second, with improved color and noise reduction. The D300 offers 6 fps and up to 8 fps with an optional high speed grip. The five lenses are the
